Each month I publish Every Cloud Accounting’s income. Here is the August 2024 monthly income report, along with a review of the month.
July was my lowest month since posting the income reports, so it was nice to get stuck into August.
The flip side was that when posting July’s report, I had some great comments and it showed the importance of posting the lows as well as the highs. It can’t all be sunshine and rainbows!
August was a busy month with plenty going on in both business and personally. The reports have become a great way to reflect on the month, which I wouldn’t have stopped to do normally.
So let’s take a look back at August…
What went well
- Revenue increased 32% on July, giving that extra flexibility to take more out of the business.
- I had 9 enquiries in August, the most I have ever had! (Cue the trumpets or ‘crumpets’ like someone said on LinkedIn).
- Two new clients came on board, which feels like a steady rhythm now, 1-3 clients a month. I have toyed with the idea of having a waiting list and taking on clients in cohorts, so it’s smoother but that’s for another day!
- I have been posting on LinkedIn consistently for 3 months now – I have increased followers and connections by 200 and getting the odd enquiry or referral.
- The garage conversion is 99% complete, with lots of challenges along the way, but soooo close to being able to work in there!
- I ran 9 times and worked out 4 times in August, trying to build the habit of gym work as well running.
- I posted 3 x blog posts on the website including My July 2024 income report, the tale of the electrician and the magic bill and working a 4-day week, running a lifestyle business.
- Finally, I tested new accountancy production software (zzzz I know) to make the accounts process more efficient.
What didn’t go well
- I thought the garage conversion was a relatively simple job, but it has taken a lot of energy. Dealing with builders, people around the house, snags with the building work etc..
- I didn’t write as much as I wanted to, only 7 times in August.
- The summer holidays have felt slow and client onboarding has been held up a lot, waiting on information. I am planning ways to incentivise a speedy onboarding for new clients!
Building a 6-figure lifestyle business
- I have had a lot of 3–4-day short weeks in August, from funerals to weddings, to holidays, so I am grateful for that flexibility.
- As Amy’s maternity pay is dropping, I need to start taking more out the business. There has never really been a more important time to be flexible.
- Sometimes it can feel slow, hovering around 2.5k-3.5k months, where I can think it’s similar to a salary. But I was reminded recently that it’s not comparing apples and apples. There’s flexibility, autonomy, no one can sack you and it can grow! Which did make me feel better.
August 2024 monthly income report
August felt like a great month and I was really happy, especially after a slow July. The reality is, I am getting good enquiries, regular clients onboarding, it can just take time for it to pass through into sales when the work is complete for one off jobs.
Bring on September!
